“I like to be naked, I like to sunbathe, go to the sauna naked. It solves many practical problems and is much simpler,” says Dzintra in the TV3 talk show “The Elephant in the Studio”.
Now she has become more cautious. If she decided to sunbathe naked, she would probably choose a place where not many people gather. “There are all kinds of people in the community and we don’t know who is on those beaches. Maybe there’s a pervert out there filming or taking photos from the bushes. Anything can happen,” says Dzintra.
When asked how important it is for society to draw boundaries, where nudity is very private, Dzintra says that it is one thing to draw a boundary, but another – whether others will respect it. “For example, in Spain, you don’t pay attention to being naked in any beach area. For them, nudity culture is such that it’s not some kind of wow. In Latvia, I can only be naked on nudist beaches,” says Dzintra.
In many parts of the world, including in Latvia, a man is allowed to be shirtless on the beach, but the law forbids a woman to completely bare her upper body. Could eroticized nipples be to blame? “In ancient Greece, men were allowed to be naked in public, but women were not. The reasoning was that a man is a hot being, therefore he can be hot in society, but a woman is a cool being and warms herself by the hearth. In ancient times, men studied and trained naked. For them, nudity and sexuality were not in the same sense as they are today.
Now it has gone so far that there is business and marketing involved in talking about nipples, and it is beneficial for a woman’s breasts to be something of a mystery.

I’m all for women going braless in the summer. It’s so annoying that everything gets sweaty, wet and so on. Maybe not completely naked, but in a shirt without a bra – yes,” says Dzintra.
At the same time, she indicates the limits of when to allow it and when not. For example, it would not be polite to go to work in a state institution like this, but on the weekends – why not?
