The latest version of WhatsApp has a bug that prevents users from sending video messages on WhatsApp. Reddit user u/EnderVamp posted a complaint on the WhatsApp subreddit about WhatsApp not being able to send video messages on Android. Whenever you try to send a video to someone on WhatsApp, you will see a pop-up message that says “Cannot send this video. Select another video and try again.
The bug seems to be affecting Android users on WhatsApp beta
9To5Google replicated the error and received the same annoying messages as the Reddit user. This error seems to only affect video files and does not affect other file formats. According to their findings, the error will be triggered when you try to send a video that you have shot or downloaded locally on your Android device. MOV video files shot on iOS devices can be transferred without error.
While the Reddit user who reported the bug was on an Android device, it’s unclear whether it affects all Android devices or just a few brands, or how widespread the bug is. Errors in mobile apps can occur for many reasons, such as programming errors, incompatible operating systems, or other factors. In this case, the Reddit user was using the beta version of WhatsApp, so that could be a contributing factor.
There is a temporary fix
For users experiencing this error, a temporary solution is to downgrade WhatsApp to version 2.23.8.85. Since the Google Play Store does not allow you to go back to the previous version of the application, you will have to search for the specific version from external sources such as APK Mirror.
If you don’t want to downgrade, you’ll have to wait for WhatsApp to release a fix. WhatsApp has recently undergone the biggest user interface (UI) overhaul on Android. Its engineering team is known for quickly addressing and resolving bugs and security issues.
