The songs for the new album have been recorded, as the band members say, now they have to wait for the finale, which they can no longer influence.
“The name of the album is still in the process. It is the most difficult,” says Jānis Dreimanis. According to him, the songs are easier to decide on the name of the album: “Now you have to try to bring them together under one name, so that they sound and reflect the album.”
Speaking about the new album, Jānis Daugalis says: “Finally after many years! For exactly 16 years, the group “Tumsa” has not had albums. With this album we want to show that we can write new songs. Of course, we continue to play the old ones as well, but this is something fresh, different.”
The album contains both fun and thought-provoking songs. The song “Nimiera kaijas” is a summer song with a reminder – get out of the daily rush, out of the routine, go out into nature and preferably with close people.
“Its metaphor is not to be seagulls to each other, because we are seagulls every day – wash the dishes, take out the debris, screw up the cupboard. Maybe take him by the hand, go to the dunes and see how the ships sail.”

The group “Tumsa” was founded on January 4, 1991. Then Jānis Daugalis was only 13 years old. It started with the fact that Jānis, on the birthday of his childhood friend Mārtiņš, offered to start a band to another childhood friend, Gintas Jurkis. The initial idea was to play in the style of “Depeche mode”, as both are fans of this band. At the same event, the offer is made to their mutual friend Raimondas Drozdas, who also agrees, and the group “Tumsa” was formed. Later, guitarist Krist Brewer joins the band.
The first line-up consists of Jānis Daugalis (voice), Gints Jurķis (drums), Raimonds Drozda (bass), Krists Brüvers (guitar). The first performance “We Liepajai – 93”. In the following years, the group experienced several line-up changes. From 1994 until his untimely death in 2011, the group’s soloist is Mārtiņš Freimanis. This is the time of the group’s greatest success and creative success. Shortly after Mārtiņš’s passing, the soloist’s place is taken by singer Valters Frydenbergs, who, like Mārtiņš, passed away in 2018 after a serious illness.
