In an interview with V Magazine, actress Anna Hathaway told how she passed “chemistry tests” before filming: she had to kiss several men in turn. According to the 41-year-old actress, 20 years ago it was considered a fairly normal and common phenomenon.
“In the 2000s – and this actually happened to me – it was considered normal for an actor to be asked to kiss other actors to test chemistry,” said Anne Hathaway. According to the actress, she didn’t like it, but she didn’t mind because she didn’t want to be seen as “difficult”.
“They told me, ‘You’ve been approved for the role and you have to kiss ten men.’ Aren’t you happy?” And I thought, “Is there something wrong with me? Because I wasn’t excited. I thought it sounded rude,” she recalls.
Anna added that no one is to blame in this situation. “No one was trying to be horrible or try to hurt me. It was just a very difficult time and now we know better what to do.”
These days, filming is often staffed by intimate coordinators whose job it is to make the actors feel comfortable.
