24 participants from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, France, Moldova, Ukraine took part in the Belvedere regional selection round this year. The jury consisted of Guntars Ėirsis, Aleksandrs Antonenko and Kaspars Adamsons.
The selection rounds of the competition will take place in Europe, Canada and the United States from March to the end of May this year, while the finals of the competition will take place in Latvia, at the Dzintari concert hall, from June 2 to 9.
The prestigious competition, named after the founder of the Vienna Chamber Opera, Hans Gabor, is a decisive event in the career of young singers, because by participating in the competition, they get not only cash prizes, but also permanent cooperation offers. For 42 years, the competition has been opening doors for young vocalists to the world’s most prestigious opera stages. Previous participants and laureates include opera stars Elina Garanca, Angela Georgiu, Marina Meshcheryakova, Ildiko Raimondi, etc.
