Hip hop. On May 1, a concert by the British hip-hop musician Dizzy Rascal will take place in Riga. Dizzy is a genre makeup pioneer and is considered one of the greatest British rappers of all time. About his debut album Boy in da Corner (2003) the artist won one of the most prestigious British awards – Mercury Prize – which is presented as the best album of the year. Makeup is a genre of electronic dance music with an average tempo of 140 beats per minute, it is American hip-hop, British jungle and drum’n’bass and Jamaica dancehall a mixture. Dizzy Rascal is also influenced by metal music, grungeR&B, UK garage and bassline. In this European tour, the musician presents his eighth studio album Don’t Take It Personal. Dizzy Rascal’s creative merits have also earned him the title of Knight of the Order of the British Empire.

The stage. The anniversary tour that started last year Fiesta de Maria singer Marija Naumova will close with concerts in Sigulda and Riga. The songs for this program have been arranged by the French musician Sébastien Jinho. The 2002 Eurovision Song Contest winner has been inspired by Cuban, Brazilian, Argentinian and Mexican dance rhythms to create her fiesta, and the songs in her repertoire have acquired completely new colors.

Jazz. On Saturday, April 27, prominent Swedish trombonist and vocalist Nilss Landgren will perform in the Dzintari concert hall together with the Latvian Radio big band. The music of Leonard Bernstein will be played, as well as the compositions of Sting and Marvin Gaye.

Jazz. The quartet of French saxophonist and composer Sylveens Riffle will perform in Rēzekne and Riga, with Finnish trumpeter Verneri Pohjola also performing. Sylvain Riffle considers saxophonist Stan Goetz and the American minimalists as his sources of inspiration. Premiere. Directors Klāvs Mellis and Rūdolfs Gediņš have staged a play at the National Theatre Marat/Sad based on the play by Peter Weiss. The Marquis de Sade spent the last years of his life in a psychiatric clinic in Charenton. The director of the sanatorium is said to have run his institution according to humane principles, which is why he allowed Sad to organize social dinners, balls and concerts, as well as stage Marquis’s plays, in the clinic premises. The other patients played in them. The performance Marat/Sad is an attempt to restore one of these clinic performances. Art. From Saturday, April 27, an exhibition will be on display at the Latvian National Art Museum (LNMM) In the name of lust. It promises to reveal the diversity of the theme of sexuality and sensuality in the history of Baltic visual art and today. The exhibition sheds light on Latvian authors of the 20th century who focused on the phenomenon of sexuality and lust. Contemporary artists participate in the project with already created or specially created works.
