Some time after I did this on Android, WhatsApp Finally Adds Option to Use ‘Access Keys’ or ‘Passkeys’ on your iPhone, increasing the security of your account and preventing others from impersonating you.

Although iOS added PassKeys not long ago (as early as iOS 16), WhatsApp, the most popular messaging app in this part of the world, decided to launch this functionality first on its Android version. Now you have decided that it is the right time to add it to the iPhone version and gradually more users can activate it on their devices. Like everything that WhatsApp adds as new, It doesn’t hit everyone at the same time, so if you don’t have it yet, you’ll have to wait a few days until it reaches you.

What are access keys or access keys?

This is a more secure form of identification than creating a password because it uses your fingerprint, face, or some other identification system, such as security keys, to protect your account. No passwords involved that could be leaked, sYour account can only be accessed using your “physical” identification system. So it’s a much more secure method than using your mobile number to send a text message, as anyone who backs up your SIM card (and we’ve already seen it’s not too difficult) can access your account.

The good thing about PassKeys or Access Keys is that sync and save to iCloud, so you can use them on any device you’ve linked to your account, and if you lose your phone, you’ll be able to access them again by adding your iCloud account to your new account. So it’s a new system for identifying and protecting your accounts that’s pretty secure, convenient, and something we should all start using on services that allow it.

How are passkeys or passkeys activated?

It is very easy as long as WhatsApp has added it to your account. You need to access WhatsApp settings, Open the “Account > Passwords” menu and click the “Create password” button there. You will only need to use your face or fingerprint to create a passcode, nothing else. From now on, when you activate your WhatsApp account, you will not receive messages on your mobile phone, but you will use your face or fingerprint to identify yourself.
