Among other “noir” elements, there is also an increase in the level of stress in McBride’s everyday life, because when he faces dangerous opponents, watchful eyes from the shadows follow his every step. McBride’s former comrade and business partner Donald Cooperman (William Hurt) also lurks in the shadows. Hiding his burn-scarred face, he is rarely seen in public, but from his office he monitors every word uttered in the office premises with the help of listening devices. And where without the femme fatale! There are even several, such as McBride’s ex-wife Michelle (Maria Bello), who is his opponent in the courtroom, and Brittany Gold (Tanya Raymond), a prostitute whom McBride takes on as his assistant.

The touch of a master of courtroom drama

“Goliath” is one of the works of American screenwriter and producer David E. Kelly. Perhaps his name is known to avid fans of courtroom dramas, as this is his specialty. Kelly has contributed to the creation of such legendary and beloved series as “Chicago Hope”, “Aliyah McBeal” and “Big Little Lies”. By the way, “Big Little Lies” is also available on LMT Smart TV in the HBO movies and series section.

Kelly once studied political science, but his studies probably made more than one professor’s eyes widen – the young student described the plans of US President John F. Kennedy’s administration to kill Fidel Castro in a poem, and analyzed the amendments to the US Constitution in the form of a play.

After college, Kelly worked for a time in a law firm, dealing with real estate and criminal cases, and in his spare time wrote a script for a comedy about the first steps in a young lawyer’s career and the ethical dilemmas that arise from them. Kelly’s performance earned him the attention of the film industry, and the road from the law office to the Hollywood Hills was paved!

“Goliath” is set in Santa Monica, California and features real-life locations. For example, Billy McBride lives next to the bar “Chez Jay”, where he often works while emptying alcoholic drinks and also looks for his next customers. This place has special significance in Kelly’s own life, as it was there that he met his future wife Michelle Pfeiffer, and the seemingly humble bar also inspired the creation of the character of Billy McBride. The first season of “Goliat” is available on LMT Smart TV!
