“Limousine in cherry color” is a crime comedy, which takes place in the “crazy nineties”, when everyone had a chance to get rich suddenly, adrenaline was bubbling and moral norms did not exist. The short film consists of three separate stories, the characters of which will eventually meet.

The director of the film, Marcis Pārups, says about the characters of the story: “Two gentlemen are a car.” engines from Germany, then there is a resident citizen Vilis with a grandmother from the countryside, from Tērvete, the grandmother is not such a resident citizen at all, it turns out in the end. Then there are the Greek and the Gaizins, who run the office, place people at work in the Netherlands, Holland at that time, and them around properly.”

For the director Mārcis Pārupas and the cameraman Arvi Belovs, it is a diploma thesis upon graduating from the Latvian Academy of Culture.

Arvis Belov notes: “We built all of this in three to four months, since the script and everything came together. I never thought that I would finish school with a crime comedy.”

Marcis reveals that he was scared at first, but the process turned out to be quite cool: “The main thing is that cool people, the rest will follow.”

One of the main roles was assigned to Mudīte, a resident of Āgenskalns, whom the director met on the tram.

“I took the 1st tram to Ågenskalna, but got on the wrong one. I shouldn’t have taken the first one, but another one. I guess fate had decided that. Well, I chased the passengers with a hockey stick who didn’t give me a seat. I told them to stand up to give the old people a seat Somehow, I asked them about it. He said, “May I go with you?”, and so he invited me to film.

It is not uncommon for professional actors to participate in student films without compensation, because they too have received such help at some point. Andris Zełonka, actor and director of the Liepāja Puppet Theater, says: “We have all been students, and we know very well what it’s like to do diploma theses. If you can help and the times coincide, then, in my opinion, I don’t want to guarantee, but most from the students of the Academy of Culture will go and help the current students.”

Although the creation of the film is supported by the State Cultural Capital Fund and the National Film School, it is not enough, so the team collects donations on the crowdfunding platform “GoGetFunding”. The film’s producer, Rebeka Japiņa, admits: “The expenses are high, but they are mostly for filming equipment, driving, materials, catering, but the entire creative team, technical staff have agreed to work for this project for free.”

The work on the set has been completed, editing, sound and image processing and receiving the university diploma are ahead.
