Rapper Gustavo’s musical short film, which combines adaptations of four new songs, has arrived on streaming and download platforms. Along with the publication of the music video, the author has also released the extended or “deluxe” version of the album “Tagad tiki kalsati”.
“At the end of last year, together with the director Rihardas Goets, we came up with a rather crazy idea – to film videos for all four new compositions. That’s how the idea of a marathon of singles and short videos was born, where they would be published once a week to be combined into a musical short film at the end of the month,” says Gustavo.
In March, one new Gustavo song and its screen adaptation were published every Wednesday. At the end of the marathon of new singles, the reissue or “deluxe” version of the musician’s fourth studio album “Tagad tiki salidu” has been published, which has been supplemented with the four mentioned songs and one musical etude.
“Within the framework of my work and the local hip-hop genre, a musical short film, which combines the screenplays of several clips into one, containing a single narrative, is something first-of-its-kind. When developing the script, this format, which combines a lot of different material and at the same time is very compact, many times made us, with video director Rihardas Goets, go outside the usual pattern of making music videos. And that was the most interesting thing! We are very pleased with the result and the fact that the video production company “film naked” was involved in the creation of the clip, who realized it at an extremely high professional level. The volume was high, with around 70 people on set at times.”
The idea of expanding the last studio edition came to the musician while preparing for this year’s ambitious concert show “Arena Riga”, which will take place on December 6. “I remember that I started the creative process with the thought, I wonder what is missing in this album, if you look at it as an unfinished material? I came up with compositions that are more applicable to the sub-genre of rap stories and would fit well in the program of an arena-sized show. That’s how the intense track “Kāds sakars?” was born, which illustrates the time when I started working on the material for the album and that’s when the hostilities in Ukraine started. This was followed by the song “decisions decisions” about the side effects of the information dense age. Then the musically extravagant composition “Zeme atveras” was born with the participation of the young talent Wiesul. And at the end of the marathon of singles, a song with the intriguing name “ISA” and a musical etude “About repetition” featuring radio personality Sanda Dejus were released,” informs Gustavo.
