That’s how Great music opens new doors of revelation with every new time / LR3 / / Latvijas Radio

On Friday, March 29, the Latvian Radio Choir, State Chamber Orchestra “Sinfonietta Rīga”, organist Aigars Reinis and conductor Sigvards Kļavas performed the choral cantatas of Felix Mendelssohn, the music of French composers and the masterpiece “Le temps scintille” by Mārtiņš Viļums at the Great Friday concert in Riga Cathedral. ” (”Time flickers”). The extended soprano and baritone solo parts will be sung by Latvian Radio Choir artists Nora Kalniņa and Vitalijs Stankevičs. The music director of the Riga Cathedral, organist Aigars Reiņš will perform parts of the organ cycle “Le Chemin de la Croix” op.29 (“Stations on the Road of Suffering”) by the French composer Marcel Dipré.

In 2005, Mārtiņš Viļum’s opus with lines of poetry by Paul Valeri and Rainer Maria Rilke won the first place in the “Rostrum” exhibition of new works by composers organized by the UNESCO International Music Council. Sigvards Kļava about Mārtiņš Viļuma’s work “Time flashes”: “The piece went through two versions. First, Mārtiņš wrote it for 12 singers of the Latvian Radio choir group, then I asked 24 singers to rework it. This work has been performed not only in Latvia and not only with Latvian Radio Choirs. It’s one of those opuses that somehow very logically and organically spills out into the sound space. Each singer can express himself as a personality and treat the palette of expressiveness used by Mārtiņš. Its 12 or 24 lines somehow weave together so extremely talented and masterfully , that you only need to open your ears and heart and let yourself be immersed in this fascinating world of sounds. (..) Craftsmanship and talent have merged into one big, very clever and successful work of art.”
