With a result under 14 minutes, Medved becomes the fourth fastest Latvian runner in 5000m

This past weekend’s competition for US student track and field athletes was actually the last start before a very important event – the multi-university regional conference championships. Most of these championships will be held on the second weekend of May.

This time, ten Latvian track and field athletes also competed in various traditional competitions, the most successful of them being the current best Latvian middle and long distance runner Artūrs Niklāvs Medveds. Having finished his studies at California Baptist University (CBU), Artūrs Niklavs continues to compete in an independent (Unattached) status. “Steve Scott Invite.” the race in Irvine was his third start of the spring and his third personal record.

Medved won the 5000 m race with a great personal record of 13:46.70. Until now, only three Latvian runners have completed this distance faster: Juris Grustins – 13:34.2 (1971), Genādijs Hlistovs – 13:39.2 (1967) and Dmitrijs Jurkevičs – 13:43.09 ( 2013).

In the Warhawk Classic, Monroe’s Roy Puck finished third in the 5000m – 15:34.67 and second in the 1500m – 4:05.99. Katrīna Kamarūte competed in the GSVU competition in Allendale and was third in 400 m – 57.25 sec. In the “East Coast Relays” competition in Jacksonville, Oskar Bambal was second in 800 m – 1:51.71.

“Payton Jordan Invite.” in the competition in Sanford, Kamilla Vanadziņa ran 4:31.21 in 1500 m and was fourth in her race, but “Texas Invite.” In the competition in Austin, Eliza Kraule jumped 6.02m and was sixth.

Olegs Kozyakovs competed in the “ISU Sicamore Open” competition in Terahota – third place in high jump – 1.75 m and shot put – 14.56 m, as well as ninth place in discus throw – 45.54 m. It can also be added that Oleg successfully completed the adult decathlon for the first time in his multi-athlete career at the Gibson Invite competition in Terahota a week ago.
