Israel is not going to change its plans even after US pressure

--

The US has always sided with Israel, but Rafah is President Joe Biden’s red line. Last week, without much fanfare, arms shipments to Israel were halted in part because the White House feared they would be used to attack Rafah. But Biden publicly warned for the first time that if Israeli forces enter Rafah, US arms deliveries will be completely stopped.

It does not seem that Israel has been deterred by these threats.

Benjamin Netanyahu

Prime Minister of Israel

If we have to be alone, we will be alone. I have already said that if we have to, we will fight with our claws. But there is much more to us than nails. And with the same greatness of spirit, with God’s help, we will win together.

Their military representatives also say that stopping US supplies won’t change anything.

Israeli army press secretary Daniel Hagari says: “The army has ammunition for the planned missions. Also for the missions in Rafah. We have everything you need. I say this in the context of everything that is going on with the United States of America.”

In Washington, despite Biden’s statements, rather restrained communication continues. It continues to emphasize that the US supports Israel and that the dispute is only about Rafah. That’s the red line. But it is unclear what the consequences will be if the Netanyahu government passes it.

Let’s see what happens. We have made it clear that we do not want that to happen. We continue to work with them on other options they could do. We have offered a number of other political solutions that they can choose from, which we believe would achieve the goal of eliminating Hamas still in Rafah without endangering the civilian population.

Israel has not yet launched a large-scale attack on Rafah, but it is believed to be imminent.

But while the political battles are going on, the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip is getting worse. Fearing for their lives, people are fleeing Rafah and seeking safer places. There is no such thing in the Gaza Strip. At the same time, the lack of food has worsened once again. Warehouses of international aid organizations are almost empty.
