AstraZeneca has acknowledged that its Covid-19 vaccine can cause a rare but deadly blood clot, leaving the pharmaceutical company open to lawsuits from relatives of people who have suffered side effects or died from the vaccine, according to court documents. , referring to “The Telegraph”, reports puaro.lv.

AstraZeneca, which is contesting the claims, acknowledged in a legal filing in February that its vaccine could “in very rare cases” cause a condition called thrombocytopenia syndrome, or TTS (blood clots accompanied by low platelet counts).

TTS can cause blood clots in patients, as well as low blood platelet counts, which in some cases have seriously harmed or even killed recipients of the company’s vaccine.

Attorneys representing “dozens” of class action plaintiffs say some of their clients’ cases could reach as much as $38 million.

So far, 51 lawsuits have been filed in London’s High Court, with a total value estimated at around $190 million.

One of the plaintiffs who filed the suit is Jamie Scott, an IT engineer and father of two who suffered permanent brain damage from a blood clot after receiving a vaccine in April 2021.

“We expect an apology, fair compensation for our family and other families who have suffered. We have the truth on our side and we are not going to give up,” said his wife Kate.

It was intended that AstraZeneca’s vaccine would be the main one used in the European Union.
