In Ukraine, the weather is getting warmer, so there is more activity on the front. Both sides have great opportunities to attack both with drones and artillery.

For example, Russia is currently trying to capture Chasivyar. It is reported that Russia is currently trying to capture the city from the flanks – north and south. Encirclement attempts are also apparently taking place, similar to the one in Avdiyivka in February.

The filming crew of Latvian Television was at the Ukrainian defense unit in Bakhmut district on Tuesday. Getting there was complicated, as there were also warnings of increased drone activity. Ukrainian soldiers stated that they hope for the new military aid from Western countries to reach the front as soon as possible. Because even though the US and other countries have approved significant support packages, it still takes time for artillery shells and other armaments to reach the front.

Therefore, the situation is still described as severe. And Russia is trying to get as much as possible before significant amounts of aid reach Ukrainian army units at the front.

The commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army, Oleksandr Sirsky, has admitted that the Ukrainian army had to tactically retreat from positions in some villages near Avdiyivka, where Russia continues to exert great pressure.

Although the Russian advantage is currently overwhelming, the Ukrainian army is holding the front line as much as possible and waiting for the new wave of aid to reach it.

CONTEXT:

Russia’s unjustified and unprovoked large-scale invasion of Ukraine began on February 24, 2022, the Kremlin’s propaganda brazenly promised to capture Kyiv in three days, but the selfless and strong resistance of the Ukrainians prevented the Kremlin from realizing its plans.

After the setbacks, the Kremlin withdrew the army from the Kyiv region, but continued the offensive in other regions. In the fall of 2022, the Ukrainian army managed to liberate Kharkiv region and part of Kherson region in successful operations, raising hopes for the possibility of defeating the enemy.

However, the Ukrainian counteroffensive launched in the summer of 2023 was not so successful, which the Ukrainian army explains both by the insufficient supply of weapons from the Western allies and by the deep defense line and extensive minefields created by the Russian army. Now the war of positions has started at the front with exhausting battles and we must prepare for long-term support for Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Russia regularly attacks civilian targets and is expected to target energy infrastructure like last year.
