“I have decided to suspend all regional funding for Sciences Po until peace and security are restored at the school,” Valeria Pecres, head of the Ile-de-France region, announced on social media on Monday.

She railed against a “radical minority that calls for anti-Semitic hatred” and accused left-leaning politicians of trying to exploit the tension.

The regional support of “Sciences Po”, which is one of the most prestigious universities in France, includes a million euros intended for 2024, a member of the Pecres team told the AFP news agency.

The management of “Sciences Po” expressed regret for this decision, stating that the Ile-de-France region is an essential partner of the school.

Israel launched a war against the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas in the Gaza Strip after the terrorists carried out a massacre in Israel on October 7, killing 1,200 people and taking 250 hostages.

The French government announced that it has no plans to suspend funding for Sciences Po. The Minister of Higher Education, Silvia Retaijo, said in an interview to the “France 2” broadcaster that the state funding for the university amounts to approximately 75 million euros. She claimed there were “no anti-Semitic remarks” and no violence during the demonstrations.

Both the management of “Sciences Po” and Retaijo announced that there are no plans to end the school’s cooperation with Israeli universities.
