LTV report: Russia destroys Ukrainian power plants; employees

--

The rocket arrived in the early spring morning, still in the dark. One moment, and another. This power station has also been the victim of a wave of rocket attacks in recent weeks. Russian destroyed Ukrainian power plant.

Smoke was burning in the air, equipment was crumpled in the extreme heat. They provided electricity to thousands and thousands of Ukrainians.

A cat named Murka, a resident of the power plant, also witnessed what happened – he survived. The control center of the power unit is also completely burnt out. In working power stations, monitoring the indicators of the measuring devices, someone should be there all the time. Also when there is an air alert.

Russia’s tactics of attacking the energy infrastructure mean that during war, a power plant worker is one of the most dangerous professions in Ukraine. Fortunately, there were no casualties in this attack.

Serhiys, one of the operators of the control center of the energy unit of this power plant, introduces LTV to the destroyed workplace.

“We are in the control center of the energy block. It is like a human brain – it controls the work of all the organs of the energy block. Now this brain has been destroyed,” Serhii said.

Like many who have spent part of their lives working at this power plant, for Serhii it is not just metal structures, turbines, generators and transformers, now blackened and distorted by the impact of the rocket. It is also a blow to the heart for them. As a child, Serhii saw this station being built before his eyes. Therefore, it is personal and for him it flows through the generations.

“My father worked here, built this station… It’s a pity… My father’s hands built it… It’s all dissolved, trampled. It’s very hard,” said Serhiy, holding a lump in his neck. “But we are Ukrainians, we will do everything. We will defeat them on the front, and we will put everything in order here.”

In Ukraine, many power plant transformers were destroyed by Russian missiles. Work is already underway to restore the damaged station, but it will take months. There is a determination to restore the station as soon as possible, because we have to think about the next winter of the war. There are no other options – millions of people will still need electricity.

However, without sufficient anti-aircraft coverage, which Ukraine is asking the West to strengthen, the idea that after rebuilding some other early morning, with the howling of the alarm about flying missiles, the efforts can be wasted again in an instant, does not leave the workers here quiet, but intrusive and terrifying.

In another power station that LTV was able to visit, a shelter with thick metal walls has been installed in the center where you can take shelter during an air alert. An armored vest and an armored helmet are also provided inside.
