The wings of the legendary Moulin Rouge windmill have fallen in Paris / Article

It is not yet known why the wings of the windmill fell. The accident happened after Moulin Rouge was closed, so there were no victims.

“Every week the technical teams of the cabaret check the mechanism of the windmill and no problems have been observed before,” a person close to the tourist site told the AFP news agency. “This is the first such accident since October 6, 1889, when the cabaret first opened.”

Images and videos posted on social media show that the wing block has fallen onto the street and some of the wings are dented as a result of the fall.

The Moulin Rouge cabaret, with its legendary red windmill wings, is located in the north of Paris and is one of the city’s most visited tourist attractions.

It is more widely known as the birthplace of the modern dance form cancan and opened its doors in October 1889 at the foot of Montmartre.

Moulin Rouge quickly became a popular place – people admired both the facade of the house and also gladly attended a performance inside it.

The only serious accident the building has experienced so far was a fire during construction in 1915, which forced the site to be closed for nine years.
