They were detained for entering the territory without permission. There are no reports of injuries.

Police will continue to patrol the University of Southern California through the morning, although the university said around midnight that the protests had ended.

Police at the University of Southern California had warned protesters to disperse or face arrest.

The campus area has been closed by the administration until further notice.

“Students, faculty, staff and people on campus may enter upon presentation of appropriate identification,” the university said.

Protests against the war in the Gaza Strip are spreading in several elite universities in the USA, and the police have also detained several dozen students in the previous days.

The protests began at Columbia University in New York, where dozens of protesters were arrested last week.

The school administration called the police to contain the protests, which several Jewish students described as anti-Semitic and threatening.

Israel launched a war against the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas in the Gaza Strip after terrorists carried out a massacre in Israel on October 7, killing 1,200 people and taking 250 hostages.

A chaotic situation erupted at the University of Texas at Austin on Wednesday, where hundreds of police officers, including officers on horseback and wielding batons, broke into a crowd of protesters and detained 34 people.

Several people were injured.

One of the students told the AP news agency that the police presence and treatment was an “overreaction,” adding that the protests “would have remained peaceful” if the police had not shown force.

He predicted that the arrests would only encourage students to new protests.

Police spent several hours trying to control a crowd of protesters at the University of Texas at Austin on Wednesday, but when law enforcement officers left, about 300 demonstrators returned.

The management of the university has promised to guarantee compliance with school rules and not to allow occupation of the university.

Students at California State Polytechnic University in Humboldt have been barricaded in a building for several days, and the school closed its campus over the weekend and switched to remote classes.

Harvard University tried to preempt the protests this week by restricting access to the school grounds and requiring permission to set up tents and tables. But that didn’t stop protesters from pitching 14 tents on Wednesday.

The students are demanding that the schools end their financial ties to Israel and companies supporting the war on the Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, several Jewish students have warned that the protesters are showing open anti-Semitism, which is why they are afraid to visit university campuses.

Police arrested 133 protesters at New York University this week, and more than 40 protesters were detained at Yale University on Monday.

Demonstrations and arrests of protesters have also taken place at other US universities.
