The Ukrainian giants will withdraw from the Latvian-Estonian league – Basketball – Sportacentrs.com

Information about leaving the Latvian-Estonian league and the end of the project was also confirmed by the representatives of the Ukrainian club to the “Sportacentrs.com” portal.

“We have not received an official notification from the “Prometey” club about leaving the Latvian-Estonian league. When that happens, we will also discuss the situation publicly. Yes, at the moment it looks like dark clouds have gathered because there are some rumors floating around, but I do not want to comment or discuss them in any way, out of respect for the representatives of the club, with whom I cooperated throughout the season and who had indicated in our previous mutual conversation that the club plans to play also next season,” Salvis Mētra, director of the Latvian basketball leagues, commented on the Ukrainian club’s situation for the portal Sportacentrs.com.

“Prometey” from Slobojanska joined the Latvian-Estonian basketball league in 2022/2023. in the season after Russia started the war in Ukraine. In both past seasons, “Prometey” became the champion of the Latvian-Estonian league. In the first season, Ukrainians beat Riga VEF with 77:62 in the final, but in the last season they won gold against Tallinn’s “Kalev/Cramo” – 91:83.

Also, in the two seasons spent in Latvia, “Prometey” played in the ULEB Eurocup, trying to fulfill the dream of participating in the ULEB Euroleague. In the first season, “Prometey” reached the semi-finals, losing to Ankara’s “Turk Telekom” in Riga, but in the second season, they suffered a loss in the quarter-finals against the French club “JL Bourg”.
