It would seem that these shots, with two divers, were captured somewhere in the depths of the ocean, where there are water pearls, more commonly known as corals. However, they were actually filmed at a zoo in the Netherlands, which is trying to shelter endangered coral species.

“This is the first project in which we have started to save corals of known origin. Because we know exactly where they come from, it is possible to return them later to the wild, for example in the Great Reef,” says Nienke Klerks, a biologist.

This coral sanctuary has been likened to ‘Noah’s Ark’ at the zoo. It should be noted that laboratory-grown corals live here, which are planned to be returned to life in the wild later.

“Quarantine is first followed to prevent pests such as parasites as well as diseases. Then, after quarantine, it is necessary to find the right conditions for maintaining and growing corals. It’s mostly a slow process, some grow very slowly, while others grow quite quickly,” said zookeeper Pascal Kik.

The aim of the initiative is to protect these vital organisms in light of climate change and pollution, which especially affects ocean life, including corals.
