Jankevics, although he grew up in Sabile, had moved to Liepāja long before the crime, where his girlfriend lived. As the locals are saying now, the two even had a wedding date set. About a week before April 2, Jankevics had come to Sabil because he had an argument with his girlfriend. At that time, the 43-year-old man was staying in an apartment owned by the mother of his child. On the day of the murder, April 2, his girlfriend also came to Sabil from Liepāja. Went so that both could make peace.
