2015 | 5-0 win FIFA World Cup Qualifier
Perth was the location for Australia’s second qualifying match in September 2015 on the Road to Russia 2018. Heading into the clash as resounding favourites, it took just six minutes for the hosts to open the scoring. Mathew Leckie clinically turned home Massimo Luongo’s cross for his second goal in Green and Gold. Tom Rogic followed suit with a quick-fire brace before Nathan Burns made it 4-0 inside 29 minutes after being sharpest to react to the goalkeeper’s initial parry. Aaron Mooy completed the rout following the re-start, dispatching a long-range strike from distance after collecting the ball on the half-turn from Mark Milligan.
2015 | 4-0 win FIFA World Cup Qualifier
The reverse fixture took place in Dhaka two-and-a-half months later and is best remembered for Tim Cahill’s first-half hat-trick – his second international treble. The talisman expertly headed home Aaron Mooy’s pinpoint set-piece and then bundled the ball in for his second. The third goal was the same formula as the first with Mooy again assisting the veteran, squaring a low cross for an open-goal finish from the former Everton striker. Skipper Mile Jedinak sealed the comfortable victory courtesy of a simple header after Mooy’s free-kick was headed back across the face of the goal in the 43rd minute.
2023 | 7-0 win | FIFA World Cup Qualifier
The two nations would cross paths eight years later in the Second Round of FIFA World Cup qualification for the 2026 edition at AAMI Park in Melbourne. Australia would go on to record their biggest ever win over Bangladesh, prevailing with a convincing 7-0 trouncing. Harry Souttar nodded the hosts into an early lead with a towering header before Brandon Borrello finished off some slick play with an open-goal tap-in.
Mitch Duke then scored a quick-fire double before half-time, first a well-taken header before reacting swiftest on the rebound after Borrello’s shot ricocheted off the post. Melbourne local Jamie Maclaren then bagged a second-half hat-trick which included finishing off crosses from Jordan Bos and Lewis Miller to seal a comfortable victory.
