The 2023/24 Premier League season is under way and you can follow every game and every goal right here with The Independent.

This year sees Manchester City try to defend their crown and claim a historic fourth title in succession. Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering City, who also won the Champions League and FA Cup last season, will have to see off Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and the rest to claim an unprecedented sixth league title in seven years.

Meanwhile Luton Town are making their first appearance in the Premier League, having risen from non-league in an incredible decade of progress. They followed Championship winners Burnley and second-placed Sheffield United in earning promotion to the top flight.

Follow the latest action from the Premier League below.

The resulting corner is cleared by the visitors and as ten minutes remain of this first half, they could do with a response… but it has been all Bournemouth in the last five minutes.

14:36

Bournemouth work themselves out of danger smartly with Solanke dropping deep to spark a quick move through the middle. Kluivert tries to slip it through Brighton’s back line, yet it’s blocked and drops to Scott. He hammers it seemingly on target but Barco gets a block in to send it over!

14:34

Unal drags wide! Following Igor succumbing to the pressure from Scott, the youngster flies down the right wing before pulling it back for Unal on the edge. The Turkish forward is in acres of space but his effort scurries wide of the left post!

14:33

Gilmour isn’t happy with Ouattara. The Scot slides in and his man has left a foot in there. A game of studs or no studs is initiated. Tierney takes control and gives a foul and nothing more.

14:32

After that corner was dealt with, Solanke is floored following a collision. We see another short break as the imposing forward is lifting to his feet and returns to play.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:30

Buonanotte could’ve done better there! He dances through in acres of space and seemingly has an age to shoot… But he leaves it late at the right post and Travers blocks low with ease! Debatably Brighton’s best chance so far, especially as the corner gets cleared.

14:30

The Gross cross isn’t a bad delivery, yet as for much of this opening 27 or so minutes, Brighton just can’t make the most of it as it drops. Mark O’Mahony’s swiveled shot trickles wide right tamely.

14:28

The right-back’s run is stopped by Ouattara and Gross looks to whip this one in from a decent position on the right.

14:27

In comparison, Brighton have lost three of their last five Premier League games played on a Sunday (W2), more than they had in their previous 18 (W10 D6 L2). Why am I talking about Sundays? Well, it’s got a bit scrappy again here… Brighton looking comfortable in possession as Offiah carries forward.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:26

Weirdly, Bournemouth have lost 67.5 per cent of their Premier League games played on Sunday (27/40). That’s the highest loss rate for any team to have played more than ten Sunday games in the competition’s history. I doubt De Zerbi was checking the calendar before this one, but still.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:24

Offiah has impressed so far. He stops a Solanke sprint down the left side after the home side builds back from sustained pressure. Offiah wins the tackle and then uses his body well before jinking forward himself. Unfortunately, just that final pass is missing.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:23

Brighton are working the ball nicely here, just seemingly trying to map out a way through. Every time it comes into the box though, Bournemouth have been resolute so far.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:21

Young Offiah is a bundling threat down the right, but his cross is poor and too hard. It’s controlled by Semenyo and there are some hopeful penalty shouts for handball. It’s calmly ignored but it did look to strike the Ghanaian international’s arm there…

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:18

Cook has been dealt with, and the game is slowly coming back to life.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:18

Brighton received some boos here form the home crowd. Cook makes a good challenge on Barco, yet the next one on Adingra finds the Bournemouth man on the floor holding his left shoulder. The medical staff are on to see what could be a dislocation…

The Bournemouth corner is an odd one to tell the truth. It’s played backwards and a ball is then floated over deep from the right. Dunk scorpion flicks it behind for another corner, this time on the left.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:14

Unal bursts forward down the right side after being played in by Scott. He slides a low ball to Solanke, but he’s blocked off by Dunk. There’s big appeals for a handball, yet Tierney is happy with a corner for the hosts on the right. A debate ensues.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:11

Dunk has been floored here and rightly so. Unal tries to pass through the big man’s legs and it hits him in a far from pleasant area. Take a breather mate… Collective winces all round.

At the Vitality Stadium this season, Bournemouth have secured 24 points (W6 D6 L5) from a possible 51 on offer in 17 Premier League contests. As mentioned earlier, the Cherries are in the midst of a five-match home unbeaten streak (W3 D2 L0) dating to March 9 against Sheffield United.

While Bournemouth dealt with Brighton’s dangerous Adingra, it’s worth looking at their own threat. The form of Solanke has been crucial for Bournemouth this season. The striker leads the club with 18 goals, which is the fourth highest among the league’s top scorers in 2023/2024. Intriguingly, nine of his goals have been the critical first of the match. Could we see more that quick on the draw action today?

Adingra drives forward down the left for the first time this afternoon. It’s promising but is immediately snuffed out.

14:06

Barco tries to surge forward in the middle of the park. Scott chops him down in slightly cynical fashion. Free-kick to the visitors.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:04

Semenyo gets fed in on the right by Solanke. He fires a low cross but it’s cleared comfortably by Brighton’s defence.

AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion

14:04

Brighton win an early free-kick here on the right side. Just inside the Bournemouth half. Gross curls it in and Igor meets it after it flies through the men in red and black. It ricochets off his knee and goes out for a goal-kick on the right.

The players emerge, revealing a satisfying kit battle of red-black stripes v blue-white stripes. The Vitality is ready for some Sunday afternoon football, and with the visitors winning the toss – Paul Tierney signals us underway and Brighton kick off with Joao Pedro.

When the two sides last met in Premier League action, Brighton came out on top 3-1 at the American Express Stadium in September. Kaoru Mitoma led the Seagulls with goals in the 46th and 77th minute. They were also the beneficiaries of an own goal by the Cherries’ Milos Kerkez. Dominic Solanke scored the Cherries’ only goal in the 25th minute. In recent times, Brighton have got the better of Bournemouth with wins in three straight encounters, dating to February 2023. The Seagulls have outscored the Cherries 6-1 during their winning streak.

Lewis Dunk, Valentin Barco, Pascal Gross and Joao Pedro are the four that keep their place. There are first Premier League starts for 21-year-old defender Odel Offiah and 19-year-old striker Mark O’Mahony.

Good afternoon, welcome to this live text commentary of mid-table action between Bournemouth and Brighton. As the end of the season draws closer, these two teams are looking to push into the Premier League’s top ten after comfortably securing another season in England’s top flight. Given Wolves’ win over Luton yesterday, Gary O’Neil’s side have moved into 10th on 46 points. However, a win for either of the two teams today could see the Molineux side leapfrogged with three games left to go. With Brighton’s recent poor run of form (W1 D2 L3), De Zerbi’s group will be looking to make a positive change and end the season on a high. It’ll be difficult given Bournemouth’s recent efforts (W3 D1 L2), especially considering that Andoni Iraola’s Cherries are in the midst of a fine five-match home unbeaten streak (W3 D2 L0).
