2024 Hyundai Santa Fe vs. 2024 Ford Edge Comparison

--

The 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe and 2024 Ford Edge couldn’t be more different. The new Santa Fe just debuted its bold and boxy exterior while the Edge is literally on the edge of extinction as this is its final year of production. However, they compete in the same class of midsize SUVs.

Although they’re different from each other, it doesn’t mean they don’t provide a chance to get a clear look at what may be important to buyers looking for a new SUV.

Let’s have a closer look.

2024 Hyundai Santa Fe

The 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe’s new boxy design is a radical departure from its predecessor, and its new shape also offers functional benefits like more interior space.

Not only did the Hyundai Santa Fe get a stylish new exterior, but it also enjoyed a complete interior makeover. The new model is larger, 3-row seating is standard, with the ability to seat up to seven. The exception is the Calligraphy trim, which features captain’s chairs in the second row, reducing seating to just six passengers.

The cabin features its new Panoramic Curved Display, which integrates the digital gauge cluster and the infotainment screen into one cohesive unit. The Santa Fe is powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that makes 277 horsepower. It has front-wheel drive standard and all-wheel drive (AWD) optional. The Santa Fe is also available as a hybrid. Pricing begins at $35,345, including destination fees.

Hyundai Santa Fe Highlights

Excellent driver assistance: Hyundai’s Highway Driving Assist combines various technologies, including adaptive cruise control and lane centering, to make highway driving safer and easier. It’s available in two versions, including Highway Driving Assist 2 on the Calligraphy models, adding functionality like lane-change assist.

Easy access: The new Hyundai Santa Fe comes with a built-in exterior grab handle, allowing users easier access to the SUV’s roof. It remains flush with the side of the vehicle until you push it in and use it. It’s also lockable to prevent others from using it.

Twice the charge: Few things are as maddening as having to give up the wireless charging pad before your smartphone is fully juiced or, worse yet, handing over the USB cable. That is a first-world problem of the past in the new Hyundai Santa Fe with its two wireless charging pads.

2024 Ford Edge

In its final year, the Ford Edge should still be considered by anyone looking for a roomy, comfortable vehicle with a good powertrain and a handsome exterior design.

The Edge’s ability to carry five people and a bunch of their stuff while offering an elevated seating spot for the driver puts it on plenty of shoppers’ lists. It delivers excellent ride and handling with a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder, putting out 250 hp, which is less than the Hyundai Santa Fe.

However, moving up to the ST model gets you a 2.7-liter turbo V6 developing 335 hp. This makes for a quick, sporty vehicle that handles curvy roads surprisingly well. Standard AWD helps with that experience. Pricing on the Edge starts at $39,960, including destination charges.

Ford Edge Highlights

Safety tech: Ford’s Co-Pilot360 driver assistance system includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assistance, and automatic high beams. The upgrade to Co-Pilot360 Assist includes adaptive cruise control, evasive steering assistance, and navigation with real-time traffic updates.

AWD standard: The Edge offers a choice of two engines, but no matter which one you choose, all-wheel drive is standard. It’s a $1,800 add-on for the Hyundai Santa Fe.

Large touchscreen: Every new Edge comes with a big 12-inch infotainment touchscreen to control its user-friendly system. Wi-Fi and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto phone integration are standard.

Similarities

The Hyundai Santa Fe and Ford Edge feature spacious interiors, strong powertrains, and plenty of leading-edge technology.

Conclusion

The new Hyundai Santa Fe and the Ford Edge are pretty different, even though they’re technically in the same class. The Hyundai carries two more passengers, features a more powerful base engine, and costs more than $4,000 less than the Edge for the base model. The big advantage to the Edge is the ability to upgrade to a 335-hp V6. However, that’s going to add a few more dollar signs to the total. Overall, the Hyundai Santa Fe is a better value.
