Gert Ingebrigtsen, father of Norwegian track and field athletes Jakob, Henrik and Philip Ingebrigtsen and former coach, has been charged with domestic violence, Norwegian police said Monday.

The Ingebrigtsen brothers released a statement last October accusing their father of abusing their sons.

“We grew up with a very aggressive and authoritarian father who used physical violence and threats in upbringing. We still feel the discomfort and fear we lived with since childhood,” the Ingebrigtsen brothers’ statement published in the Norwegian newspaper VG says.

Norwegian police launched an investigation into allegations of abuse and announced Monday that prosecutors have decided to charge the athletes’ father with domestic violence against one of his children. Gert Ingebrigtsen is accused of abusing one of the youngest children in the family.

Jakobs Ingebrigtsen has achieved the highest results of the three older brothers, winning gold twice at the World Championships in the 5,000-meter distance, as well as becoming the Olympic champion in the 1,500-meter distance.

On the other hand, Henriks and Filips Ingebrigtsen have become European champions in the 1500 meter run.
