The international grandmaster from the Netherlands Wouters Sipma won the second place after the same number of points, but Filips Kuczewskis from Poland rounded out the top three with 12 points. A total of 52 participants from nine countries took part in the World Cup.

This is Valner’s second consecutive victory in the World Cup stages this year. The previous stage, where Guntis won, took place in Ouagadougou, the capital of the West African country Burkina Faso, from January 19 to January 27, 2024.

The next competition in which Valneris will participate will start very soon in Portugal, where the world team championship will take place from May 1 to May 8. The Latvian men’s national team will be represented by Guntis Valneris, Raimonds Vipulis and Roberts Misāns, while the world champion Jeļena Česnokova, Malvīne Misāne and Alise Misāne will play in the Latvian women’s national team.
