The central, though not the only, culprits are the newly created fan movement “912 Ultras”, whose name grew out of the public transport route “Liepāja-Grobiņa-Liepāja”, namely the 912 bus.
Wishing to remain anonymous, the representatives of the movement do not hide that their ranks are growing rapidly and the most important accent for all is one – support for their people.
– How was the idea of ”912″ born?
– At the moment when “Grobiņas SC/LFS” decided in favor of participation in the Super League and it was accepted by the federation, we, the closest like-minded people, understood that we must be present and support the team. At that time, we recognized our fellow human beings and designed “912 Ultras”.
Initially, there were fewer people in the group, but with each game there are more and more of us. We are currently over 40 people.
We assume that with each subsequent game, people will join more and more, based on what they have experienced so far. We want to be present, participate with support in every home game, and in away games, if possible.
Initially, my closest friends and I realized that we wanted to support, and we formed a group at every home game and away games as much as possible.
– How was the response, did you have to persuade someone?
– Quite the opposite. As soon as they heard that we were gathering, people applied themselves, driven by exactly the same reasons as us. No one needed to be convinced of anything.
I think, even without this movement, we would still have met at the stadium.
– Why exactly “Grobiņa”?
– Because there is finally a team in Liepāja that plays in the Super League and is played by Liepaja residents. “Grobina” guys are our family members, friends, peers, schoolmates.
We definitely want to support them, because they are our people.
We all see what is happening in the city’s football, we know the stories of these footballers, we followed them before. Most of us are from Liepāja, born and raised, but there are also people from Grobiņi, people from other nearby towns.
– There is also good energy in other sectors of the stands. What do you think brought the stadium back to life?
– Sports fans in this city in general longed for a team with someone to sympathize with. The other team in the city will not create such emotions.
It is important that locals play, they are our people, support comes naturally, it is not only from for ultrasthis is, in our opinion, the general opinion of Liepāja sports fans.
Game attendance is a good benchmark to tell which side a city fan is on.
Also, for example, the postponed game, which took place at one o’clock on a weekday, we were in 260 stands. After our match, the other team played at a more convenient time. 80 people come there. Therefore, this fact speaks “for”.
– Are you more drawn to the stadium by your love for football or is this your own factor?
– We are more about those guys than about football as such. For us, the results are of secondary importance at the moment, it is more important to be there when the guys fight at the highest level and do it from the heart.
The sweetest moments are, of course, the victories. The same victory over “Liepāja” (3:2) – it will be difficult to beat in terms of emotions, we were all looking forward to it, thank you to the team for this day!
– You are a new movement on the Latvian football map, how do you feel about the overall picture?
– To tell the truth, we are surprised and happy about the support expressed by other football fans. A huge thank you to the people who offer to sponsor after the football holiday consequences in the amount of 900 euros.
It’s nice to hear, see and feel the support.
We also often get good words from other football fans about the work we do.
– Do you feel the energy barter from the players as well?
-Yes, certainly. Expressed. First of all on the pitch, but also off it, for which we especially want to thank the players for their good words, because when we communicate with the players, we feel that what we do makes sense.
We try to push them forward, but they also push us. Therefore, we will continue what we have started, we will try to first maintain and then increase the level.
