Ostapenko, who is ranked tenth in the WTA ranking and seeded ninth in the tournament, beat Spain’s Jessica Bouzas-Maneiro (WTA 93) 6-3, 6-1 in the second round match.

At the beginning of the first set, both tennis players managed to win the opponent’s service game and after the first four games the result was 2-2. In the next three games, Ostapenko was superior, maintaining the lead until winning 6-3.

In the second set, Ostapenko, beating her opponent twice in her service games, won 4-0. The Spaniard went on to win her own service game, but Ostapenko was dominant in the next two games, taking the first match point to win the second set and the entire match.

For reaching the third round, the Latvian tennis player earned 65 world ranking points.

In the fight for entry into the round of 16, Ostapenko will meet the Argentine Maria Lourdes Carla (WTA 82nd), who beat Russian Veronika Kudermetova (WTA 19th) 6-4, 6-4.

The Latvian tennis player was free from the first round, participating in the tournament only from the second round. On the other hand, Bouzas-Maneiro, after overcoming two qualification rounds, beat Paula Bados (WTA 101.) 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the first round of the main tournament.

Ostapenko has won two titles this season and has a 17-7 win-loss record. In March, the 21-year-old Bouzas-Maneiro won her first WTA 125 title, winning the tournament in Antalya on clay.

Ostapenko will also compete in the doubles tournament with her usual opponent Ludmila Kichenoka from Ukraine, in which the Latvian and Ukrainian duo is seeded fifth.

The tournament in Madrid takes place on clay courts.
