This past weekend saw one of the most high-profile boxing fights in months as Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia stepped into the ring.

In this fight, García, who was considered to be the last, won the victory, defeating his opponent according to the decision of the judges – 112:112, 114:110 and 115:109.

Garcia obviously likes to bet, as even before the fight he made a bet with Garcia that he would pay his opponent $500,000 for every pound over the weight limit. Garcia exceeded the weight limit by three pounds (1.3 kilograms), so he owed his opponent a million and a half even before the fight itself. Also, Garcia was forced to pay his opponent 600,000 fines for not making weight.

However, the boxer himself said on his “Instagram” account that before the fight he made a bet of two million US dollars on himself, which increased his account by 12 million after the victory.

Participating in sports betting is mostly illegal. In the world of boxing, betting on one’s fights is also mostly scandalous. For example, in 2017, Floyd Mayweather wanted to make a bet that he would defeat Conor McGregor before the end of the 10th round, but the Las Vegas casino did not accept such a bet.

Therefore, Garcia’s bet on his own fight was most likely placed in some illegal bookmaker. Garcia is not expected to provide more information on the rate.

In this fight, Garcia failed to get Haynie’s World Boxing Council belt in the 63.5 kilogram division because, as already mentioned, he did not fit into the weight limit.
