The “McLaren” unit has made changes to its technical staff structure before the fourth stage of the F1 championship. David Sanchez left the team after only three months of work.

Some time ago, the team introduced three positions of technical directors. Sanchez previously worked for the Ferrari team, but already in February of last year he agreed with McLaren, although he was only allowed to start work on January 1 of this year. The French engineer held the position of Technical Director of the car’s performance concept, working alongside Peter Podromou, Technical Director of Aerodynamics.

After only three months of work, Sanchez left the team. Both parties have agreed on this after several discussions. The reason given is the fact that Sanchez’s actual duties did not correspond to what was agreed upon with McLaren before signing the contract.

Neil Houldey will continue to be McLaren’s Technical Director of Engineering, Podromou will continue to be Technical Director of Aerodynamics, while Team Principal Adrea Stella will take over as Technical Director of Performance on an interim basis. That will be until a replacement for Sanchez is found. Former Red Bull engineer Rob Marshall, who joined the team on January 1, will serve as chief designer.

After a bad start to the season in 2023, McLaren finished fourth in the Constructors’ Cup. On the other hand, this year, after completing three stages, the British unit, which recently came under the full ownership of Bahrain’s sovereign wealth fund, occupies the third position.
