Attorneys representing “dozens” of class action plaintiffs say some of their clients’ cases could reach as much as $38 million.

A recent study by RMIT University and Monash University found that Australia’s Covid-19 vaccination campaign may have prevented the deaths of 17,760 people aged over 50 in New South Wales between August 2021 and July 2022.

AstraZeneca’s vaccination, which was also carried out in Australia, has been shown to be effective in the fight against Covid-19, and according to some estimates it has saved up to six million lives worldwide. However, it has also caused rare side effects in some people, reports the New York Post.

AstraZeneca, which is contesting the claims, acknowledged in a legal filing in February that its vaccine could “in very rare cases” cause a condition called thrombocytopenia syndrome, or TTS (blood clots accompanied by low platelet counts).

TTS can cause blood clots in patients, as well as low blood platelet counts, which in some cases have seriously harmed or even killed recipients of the company’s vaccine.
