The United States is ready to take very strict measures to limit or even ban the spread of Chinese “connected” machines in the country. Namely, they are machines that can send information via the Internet, for example, to a car manufacturer. It is interesting that the Chinese themselves have taken a similar step before – they previously banned Tesla cars on the territory of various military and state facilities. Also, you could not travel with a Tesla if the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party was in that particular area. They worry that the camera-equipped Tesla cars might film something the Chinese don’t want to show Americans.

The US Commerce Department is currently reporting the results of an investigation into whether cars from Chinese automakers pose risks to US national security. “We need to gather all the data and then decide what measures we want to take,” said Gina Raimondo, the US Secretary of Commerce. “We can also take extreme measures, that is, say ‘no’ to these Chinese machines or try to limit them.”

The White House launched this investigation based on the fact that the machine constantly collects a large amount of sensitive data about the driver and passengers of the machine, and also collects sensitive data about the infrastructure of the United States through the use of cameras and sensors.

Raimondo, in one of the hearings in the US House of Representatives, pointed out various risks that the US sees. “They can collect a lot of data about Americans – who these people are, what they say in the car, where they go, what are their usual routes or driving habits,” she said, stressing that the United States should take the risks posed by modern technology much more seriously. President Joe Biden has repeatedly said that he will not hesitate to take tough decisions to prevent the market from being flooded with products from Chinese automakers.

Representatives of the Chinese government, of course, deny all accusations in their direction. Over the past year, a kind of trade war has developed, with Europe and North America trying in various ways to slow down the expansion of Chinese automakers in these regions – the Chinese are flooding the market with cheap electric cars, trying to capture market share. A European Union investigation found that this is achieved through massive subsidies from Beijing, which allow Chinese companies to engage in dumping. China rejects the accusations, saying that people buy their cars not because the cars are cheaper, but because they are better. This is probably true to some extent, but it cannot be denied that the price is also an important factor in the success of this machine in Europe.
