On Thursday, May 9, the Saeima rejected the proposal previously supported by the parliamentary commission to raise the age from which it is allowed to purchase alcoholic beverages to 20 years. True, the deputies do not rule out the possibility of introducing certain restrictions, for example, dividing alcoholic beverages by strength and determining the age from which it will be allowed to purchase a drink of a specific strength.

Minētais ierobežojums tika virzīts ar grozījumiem Alkoholisko dzērienu aprites likumā.

Saeima neatbalstīja priekšlikumu celt vecuma ierobežojumu, no kura ļauts iegādāties alkoholu. Ja patlaban likums to ļauj no 18 gadu vecuma, tad ar grozījumiem likumā tika rosināts ļaut alkoholu iegādāties no 20 gadu vecuma.

Pret vecuma celšanu iestājās gan opozīcijas, gan koalīcijas deputāti.

Opozīcijas deputāts Andris Kulbergs (AS) norādīja uz, viņaprāt, paradoksu, ka ar valsts ar šīm likuma izmaiņām pasaka, ka cilvēks 20 gadu vecumā var precēties, braukt ar auto, lietot ieroci, “bet pudeli atvērt mēs tev neuzticēsim”.
