The current geopolitical situation forces people to think about the future and go to the elections to defend their interests, Kristīne Saulīte, the chairwoman of the Central Election Commission (CVK), admitted in an interview on Latvian Television’s “Morning Panorama” program.
She explained that the CEC and other institutions involved in the organization of the upcoming European Parliament (EP) election process are doing everything possible to ensure a safe process, as well as to achieve a higher voter turnout in these elections. The results of the study allow us to assume that more citizens could come to the elections than before.
“The current geopolitical situation forces people to think about our future and represent their interests,” said Bērziņa.
The head of CVK assured that all involved parties are working seriously to prevent various security risks. The situation is constantly monitored, various possible scenarios are modeled, all involved institutions approach this issue very seriously. The Baltic States are also investing resources to explain in the international preparation process what it means to organize elections in this geopolitical situation. “Baltic countries speak internationally to give a sense of reality,” emphasized Bērziņa.
EP elections are expected in the second weekend of June.
