A consortium of Japanese companies has tested the world’s first high-speed wireless device for sixth generation (6G) mobile networks. During the tests, it was possible to reach a data transmission speed of 100 Gbps at a distance of more than 90 meters, which is at least 10 times higher than the maximum of 5G, according to foreign media.

Commercial use of 5G networks began only in 2019. Currently, this standard is the latest wireless communication standard, and its support is implemented in most modern smartphones. Average 5G connection speed T-Mobile 5G networks have 204.9 Mbps, and the theoretically achievable 5G limit is 10 Gbps.

With a speed of 100 Gbps, you can, for example, transfer five HD movies per second. According to the German company An extra data, it is up to 500 times faster than the average speed of an American telecommunications operator T-Mobile in 5G networks.

Test results conducted by Japanese companies show that the 6G wireless device transmits data at 100 Gbps indoors using the 100 GHz band and outdoors using the 300 GHz band. The device was tested at a height of 100 meters.

Despite the fact that the implementation of 5G in many countries is still far from being completed, scientists are already working on the creation of the next generation standard.

The infrastructure for 6G networks is being developed, and commercial use of the standard is expected to begin as early as the next decade.

The main difference between 5G and 6G is the different frequency ranges of the electromagnetic spectrum used by devices of different standards. Operating at higher ranges usually means much higher speeds.

6G networks will use higher frequency bands between 100 GHz and 300 GHz. The use of higher frequency bands means not only a higher data transmission speed, but also the need to create a completely new infrastructure for signal transmission and amplification.
