Google commands from Flutter, Dart Python restructured with redundancy

In another round of layoffs, Google has laid off several employees and restructured its Flutter, Dart, and Python divisions. These massive layoffs could be part of a massive internal reorganization at the search giant.

Google has let a number of employees leave some key and very important platforms. Some of the platforms most affected are Flutter, Dart, and Python.

Google has approved the latest round of internal team downsizing and restructuring TechCrunch. Speaking about the layoffs, Google spokesperson Alex Garcia-Kummert said:

“As we’ve said, we invest responsibly in our company’s highest priorities and significant opportunities. To best position ourselves for these opportunities, in the second half of 2023 and into 2024, several of our teams made changes to become more efficient and perform better, remove layers, and align our resources to our biggest product priorities.

Google was tight-lipped about the total number of layoffs and the specific teams affected. The company said it is not making another company-wide cut. “Reorganizations as part of normal business,” the company confirmed, adding: “Employees affected will be able to apply for other open roles at Google.”

Although Google hasn’t given a number, a recent WARN notice filed on April 24 indicates that Google may have laid off 50 employees at three locations in Sunnyvale. Although the numbers look similar, these terminations could be different from recent layoffs related to sit-ins on Google campuses.

Google as a company is going through a fundamental and phenomenal change. The search giant recently merged two of its biggest departments.

The new team, called “Platforms and Devices,” will oversee all Google Pixel products, all Android, Chrome, ChromeOS, Photos, and more. In essence, Google has combined the software and hardware departments into one super team. Google has created this new department to quickly prioritize the infusion of AI into more products.

Google has scaled back its ambitions in some markets. The company recently confirmed that “a few hundred” jobs were cut from each team in the company’s AR, core engineering and Google Assistant teams. Alex seemed to be hinting at the same approach this time when he said:

“With this, we’re simplifying our structures to give people more opportunities to work on our most innovative and important achievements and our biggest company priorities, while reducing red tape and layers.”

However, several Googlers affected by the latest mass layoffs took to social media platforms to confirm the development. Some of the affected employees have argued that Google has essentially outsourced key roles to other countries. In other words, Google is being accused of moving jobs out of the US.
