Opel presents the next generation Grandland SUV

--

Elegant and dynamic, roomy and versatile, with a fully electrified powertrain – this is the new Opel Grandland presented today by the Risselsheim-based carmaker. The new model embodies in series production many of the design features that first appeared in the Opel Experimental concept car. These include a 3D Vizor with an illuminated Blitz logo placed proudly in the center and a permanently illuminated ‘OPEL’ lettering on the rear.

The BEV platform provides up to 700 km electric range (WLTP)

The next generation Grandland is an important step for Opel towards an even more attractive electromobility. It is the first Opel to use the Stellantis STLA Medium platform, primarily developed for electric models. Thanks to the new architecture, the new arrangement of battery blocks that provide up to 98 kWh capacity, the new generation electric motor and such energy-saving solutions as the heat pump, the new Grandland Electric will be able to drive up to 700 kilometers without local emissions (WLTP).

When charging is needed, it will require very short breaks: it only takes about 26 minutes to fill the battery up to 80% at a public fast charging station.

3D Vizor, illuminated Blitz, Edge Light technology and Intelli-Lux Pixel Matrix HD

A new technical material opened up a lot of leeway for the designers, and the new Grandland’s impressive stance is noticeable at first glance. The newcomer is 4650 mm long, 1905 mm wide, and 1660 mm high.

The appearance of the new model is made even grander by the new execution of the typical Opel brand face – 3D Vizor. This element is combined with an illuminated Opel Blitz logo, which has become even more noticeable with the help of Edge Light technology.

The new illuminated logo is complemented by another lighting innovation developed by Risselsheim engineers – the industry-leading Intelli-Lux Pixel Matrix HD system. It offers 51,200 elements to create a high-precision beam, and the new Grandland is the debut of the new system. Its camera analyzes the traffic and detects the vehicles in front and oncoming traffic. Intelli-Lux Pixel Matrix HD headlights “cut out” these objects even more precisely than standard Matrix Light technology and create a much brighter and more uniform light distribution, while ensuring that other road users are not blinded.

The long wheelbase (2784 mm) and steep rear doors highlight the increased interior and luggage compartment capacity. The rear seats can be folded in a 40:20:40 ratio, thus creating up to 1,641 liters of luggage space.

Spacious interior with 16-inch central display, AGR seats and ingenious storage solutions

In the interior of the new Grandland, passengers are greeted by bold, clean elements and a warm, inviting atmosphere. Architecturally, the interior layout emphasizes the horizontal motif, with lines connecting the front panel to the doors, enhancing the sense of width and spaciousness, while the slightly driver-facing 16-inch central display and tall center console create a sporty mood. Behind the steering wheel, the discreet, spacious and fully digital instrument panel provides all the necessary driving information and is complemented by the Intelli-HUD projection display, allowing the driver to fully focus on the driving pleasure and keep his eyes on the road.

The interior provides a particularly engaging driving experience: Opel’s ergonomic AGR seats have been awarded numerous times, and the new Grandland continues the long-standing tradition of high-quality ergonomics. Provided by “Aktion Gesunder Rücken e. V.” (“Campaign for healthy backs”) certificate, they offer a new comfort function – electrically adjustable side support. By using two pneumatic pockets built into the side cushions of the backrest, it greatly improves the adjustment possibilities of the seats. In addition, the seat also provides ventilation and massage for the driver, and all the fabric used in the cabin is made from 100% recycled materials.

Alternative drives, frequency-sensitive damping and a wide range of driver assistance systems

Even those customers who prefer other types of drive will find exactly what their heart desires in the range of fully electrified drives. The new Grandland with a plug-in hybrid powertrain (Plug-in Hybrid) provides up to 85 km of electric mileage without local emissions (WLTP), while the Grandland Hybrid with 48-volt technology offers another exciting option that creates driving pleasure while reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Although the Grandland significantly reduces emissions, it still offers a fun, dynamic and comfortable drive. This is provided by the shock absorbers used in the suspension with frequency-sensitive oscillation damping technology. This unique technology uses a second hydraulic circuit in the damper chamber to mechanically adjust the damping force as a function of frequency. In places where the suspension receives frequent (high-frequency) low-amplitude shocks, for example, when driving on the pavement or driving over a hatch cover, the shock absorbers adapt and provide a particularly smooth ride, while in sporty, dynamic cornering or other rapid maneuvers that cause body roll, new shock absorbers provide additional stability and grip.

The attractive offer of Opel’s new SUV leader is complemented by a wide range of driving assistance systems, including automatic cruise control with Stop & Go function, road sign recognition system with extended functionality, intelligent speed adjustment system and In Crash Braking system, which aims to help avoid a secondary collision in the event of an accident , moreover, all these systems are included in the model’s standard equipment.

The Intelli-Drive 2.0 system is also available as an option, which combines a series of electronic assistants and combines them with a semi-automatic lane change assistant, as well as the Recommended Speed Adaptation function. If the target lane is free, the assistant directs the Grandland to the desired lane with small steering movements. On the other hand, adjusting the recommended speed, upon confirmation by the driver, automatically reduces or increases the driving speed according to the speed limit set on the road section. In addition to sensors, Intelli-Drive 2.0 also uses online information. On the other hand, parking and maneuvering are facilitated by front and rear parking pilots, a rear view camera with automatic cleaning function and a 360-degree Intelli-Vision camera.
