On Thursday, March 28, the composition of the Latvian national women’s ice hockey team was announced for the participation in the Women’s World Ice Hockey Championship, Division I, Group B tournament, which will take place in Riga, the capital of Latvia.
The championship will start from 31.03.2024. until 06.04.2024 Volvo Ice Hall, Riga, Latvia. As part of the tournament, the Latvian women’s hockey team will fight for entry into Group A of Division I.
In addition to the host Latvia, the national women’s teams of Italy, Poland, Slovakia, Great Britain and Slovenia will also participate in the tournament. The Latvian national team will play its first match at the World Championship on March 31 against the strong Slovakian team, which ranks 16th in the world ranking. Our national team will face Italy on April 1, Slovenia on April 3, Poland on April 5 and Great Britain on April 6.

“One of the harbingers of spring in Latvia has traditionally been the matches of the Latvian national hockey team. We are glad that we provide equal opportunities in both women’s and men’s hockey. I wish the Latvian women’s national team and the entire support team unity, luck and success!” says Minister of Education and Science Anda Čakša.
“Riga is honored to become the capital of ice hockey – it was like that last year, when the men of our national team fought for medals in the ice arenas in Riga and Tampere, and it will be like this again this year, when Riga will host the teams of the Women’s World Ice Hockey Championship. Latvia, with its women’s hockey team, first presented itself at the international level more than 30 years ago, the team has always had a powerful team spirit throughout the years, and I wish our ladies an excellent start in the upcoming hockey championship!” says Vilnis Ķirsis, chairman of the Riga City Council.

The team that won the first place in the B group of the first division of the World Championship will play in the A group of the I division next season, while the team that takes the 6th place will play in the A group of the II division in 2025.
We invite hockey supporters to schedule a visit to the games of the World Championship Division I Group B tournament, filling the Volvo ice arena and supporting Latvian athletes! Entry to the Championship games at the Volvo ice rink is free for a child under 6 years of age when accompanied by an adult.
