Green grass, blue sky, sand, sunshine, flowers and birds. “They did it all by themselves, they also put together the color combinations,” teachers Indra Zuntner and Zane Nipere-Niperoviča talk about the flight of the students’ thoughts.

Every citizen was invited to take part in the sail campaign, and yesterday, May 9, in celebration of Europe Day, sails were hoisted, attached or placed wherever everyone had the opportunity.

The teachers and children of “Kipara” pinned their sail in the courtyard near the fence. For the pleasure of yourself and others. “At the end of the day, we will bring it inside, in our group. It will fit in very well with us,” said I. Zuntner.

The idea is to add children’s handprints to the sail.

The educators are still thinking about whether they will go to the nearby area to see what other people have managed to sail. “If we find out where, then why not.”

According to the information provided by the foundation, there are more than 20 places in total.

Another activity dedicated to Europe Day was the opening of the “On the Road” exhibition. In the shop windows of Tirgoņu Street, between shops, cafes and banks, city guests and local residents can now enjoy works of art.

The creative work of three authors – Sabīne Werner, Andrej Lavrinović and Anna Franciska Beļane – is under consideration.

Celebrating Europe Day, artworks for the exhibition have been selected in accordance with the theme of “Liepājas 2027” – (un)peace.

S. Werner’s work decorates the hair salon where Santa works.

“I’m standing right outside this window, so this artwork relates to me the most. Very beautiful, I like it,” she evaluates the artist’s performance, in which a butterfly can be seen.

“We were happy to accept the invitation, because why not? We are about art.”

The organizers have cleaned the window and prepared it for the artwork. “Before the hairdresser there was a shop here, some of the stickers remained. Now it’s all cleaned up, and for two weeks the windows will be decorated with beauty.”

Santa was not sad that he could not participate in the official opening of the exhibition because he was working at the time. You will be happy about art, both when you come to work and when you go home.

Artists’ works naturally fit into Tirgoņu Street and its atmosphere. Without raising your eyes, you can overlook and rush past what decorates the windows and doors of shops in your daily run.

This was also the goal of the curator of the exhibition Ieva Rubeze – the result was created in close cooperation with the owners of the places, nothing was imposed or deliberately provoked.

Sports shoes are lined up in the bank building, in the part where the ATMs are located, which is more noticeable.

“You can never have too much art. The more the better,”

according to Dāvids, who was approached on Tirgoņu Street, next to A. Lavrinović’s work.

However, the man admits that he does not understand modern art. “I guess I am old school an adherent. I can walk past such works in a smooth step. Don’t speak.”

But the idea of the organizers seems compelling to Dávid. “If we look at the street in general, it seems to have died down. It needs to be brought to life, and it doesn’t matter with any of the art forms. It can also be done with music.”

The representative of the “Liepāja 2027” foundation, Baiba Bartkeviča, says that there were different ideas about where to create the exhibition.

Not only was Tirgoņi Street considered, but there was a response here, unlike other places.

“We needed to have several places together whose owners would like art to decorate their shop windows. We hope that this event will give an impulse to others to be open and allow themselves to go on such and similar journeys and adventures.”
