In emergency situations, residents of Riga are advised to follow reliable sources of information, following the second informational campaign for residents of Riga Municipality “Riga Civil Defense Plan – Know and Participate!” The LETA agency of the seminar was informed by the External Communication Department of the Riga City Council.
In the seminar “Receiving information and the risks of misinformation – the recommended action that protects”, experts drew attention to educational questions about ways of obtaining information in crisis situations, manipulative methods in the information space, cyber security, also providing an insight into practical examples of recognizing disinformation or fake news.
In crisis situations, citizens were advised to rely on the news provided by Latvian public media for obtaining information.
When you hear alarm sirens or loudspeaker announcements, you should turn on the television and radio, or follow the information on the public media portal on the Internet.
Information can also be followed on the websites of the responsible services, for example “sargs.lv” and their social network accounts.
It is recommended to download the application of the State Fire and Rescue Service “112 Latvija” or view the website “112.lv”.
Citizens are encouraged to prepare backup communication channels in time, for example, to buy several SIM cards of mobile operators, several simple, long-lasting mobile phones, backup power supplies, radios, walkie-talkies.
As reported, on March 27, the Riga City Council adopted the civil defense plan of the capital, which developed algorithms and provided specific advice on how to act for citizens in various crisis situations, including in the event of a military threat.
In the first municipal seminar, the civil defense recommendations were discussed in “X hour”.
