In order for Ukrainian children to socialize more successfully in their new place of residence, changes in legislation are planned. It will be determined that, starting from September 1, 2024, every minor citizen of Ukraine who has reached the age of compulsory education, who has been granted temporary protection status, must start studying in Latvian educational institutions in person. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has prepared and introduced appropriate changes to the Law on the Support of Civilians of Ukraine for public consultation. The document will be sent to the government for consideration in the near future.

In Latvia, the age of compulsory education is from 5 years. Minor citizens of Ukraine can study a pre-school education program or a general primary education program according to their age. While studying in Latvian educational institutions, Ukrainian children will have the opportunity to receive all the necessary support for improving their well-being and psycho-emotional state, as well as the necessary support in studies and help to integrate into society.

In order to be able to register your minor child in an educational institution in the city of Daugavpils for the 2024/2025 academic year, parents/guardians until this year On May 31st, you are invited to go to the Daugavpils City Education Board (Saule Street 7, Daugavpils) and to the customer service specialist (on the 1st floor) fill out the information form. Specialists of the Education Administration will evaluate the demand for places and assign children to educational institutions where there will be free places.

Working hours of the customer service specialist have got:

  • on Mondays from 8.00-18.00,
  • on Tuesdays-Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.,
  • on Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Lunch break from 13.00-14.00.
