Several movies will be available for free in cinemas in Riga and Talsa on Thursday

--

On Europe Day, cinemas in Talas and Riga will be able to watch five films supported by the European Foundation “Radosă Eiropa Media” for free, informs Lelda Ozola, representative of the National Cinema Center.

The 2018 documentary film “Bridges of Time” will be shown at the “Kino bize” cinema in Riga at 6 p.m., the 2016 documentary film “General Plan” will be shown at the “K.Suns” cinema at 5 p.m., the 2016 documentary film at 6 p.m. “Ukrainian sheriffs”, but at 20:00 you will be able to watch the 2019 feature film “Jelgava ’94”. On the other hand, the 2015 feature film “Dawn” will be shown in the “Auseklis” cinema in Talso at 6 p.m.

There is a symbolic reason for the Talsi screening at the “Auseklis” cinema – ten years have passed since Laila Pakalniņa’s film “Ausma” was filmed in Talsi. Almost 900 participants from the towns and villages of Kurzeme participated in its creation, including many residents of Talsi and its surroundings. At the screening, everyone involved will have the opportunity to meet each other again and also with the director of the film Pakalnin and the creative group.

In the cinema “Kino bize” you will be able to enjoy the Baltic poetic documentary cinema during the screening of the movie “Bridges of Time”. The documentary film was shot in the program “Latvian films for the centenary of Latvia”. It tells about the young documentarians of the 60s of the 20th century, who in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia found a way to talk about their era in the conditions of Soviet censorship, while searching for answers to eternal questions.

In the “K. Suns” cinema, two films will be shown, which thematically touch on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The theme of the film “General Plan” directed by Jura Pakalninis is topical – it explores the destructive effects of the Russian propaganda machine. The film “Ukrainian Sheriffs” by the Ukrainian director Roman Bondarchuk, which was made in cooperation with the Latvian studio “VFS Films”, confirms the selflessness of Ukrainian men. The program will end on a brighter note – with the feature film “Jelgava ’94” by director Jānis Ābele.
