He emphasized that we are currently living in difficult times, while May 9 has always been associated with the division of society.

However, with the war in Ukraine now in its third year, perhaps some people who previously celebrated May 9 have reconsidered their values.

“I don’t know how much sanity or madness one must have in order to be able to tolerate and support war,”

said Ruk, while agreeing that part of the society continues to celebrate this day and covertly place some forbidden symbols, expressing support for what is happening.

“Underneath every letter Z drawn under the cover of night lies an inner enemy,” said the police chief.

He emphasized that the active work of the police and security services results in arrests, and potential rule breakers also count on this.

No lawbreaker wants to be caught, so all signs of attempted crime are concealed, yet police resources are concentrated and on high alert.

Meanwhile, the past day has passed relatively peacefully.

Rook urged police to report violations, including fireworks, if caught.

“Perhaps you don’t need to intervene yourself, but if you manage to record the violation, it can help the police to identify the persons later,”

explained the police chief.

As reported, the State Police and the State Security Service (VDD) will intensify security monitoring throughout Latvia on May 9 and promise a “clear and decisive” response to provocations, when the glorification of Russian aggression and war crimes will be recorded.

As the head of the Public Relations Department of the State Police, Simona Grāvīte, informed the agency LETA, the State Police and the VDD will also work in an intensified mode on May 9 this year, when the Russian regime celebrates one of the most important holidays in its propaganda, monitoring the security situation throughout the country.

The services are preparing for any scenario and will be ready to react not only on the specific date, but also in the days before and after, in order to prevent threats to public order and security, including the glorification and justification of criminal Russian aggression and war crimes.

When such violations are detected, “the actions of the services will be clear and decisive” – such violations are subject to both administrative and criminal liability.

The services call on citizens to report if they have information about provocations planned for May 9 or if such activities are observed.
