Monta Krafte, board member of the Karosta Rescue Society, informs that the festival will take place from June 1 to 9.
It will take place in Redan, Karosta Prison, Karosta Arsenal, Revival Garden and Karosta Children’s Day Center “Herība szēturi”.
The events of the festival will be held on June 1 and 2 in the Awakening Garden.
On June 8, there will be guided tours in Karosta, offered by “Libau Train”.
During the tours, special attention will be paid to art objects created in Karosta during previous Karosta festivals. Excursions start at the Karosta prison at 2 and 2:30 p.m.
The opening of the artworks of the Karosta festival will begin in the Karosta prison on June 8 at 15:00. In the Karosta prison you will be able to view the works created by Clara Cabrera and Monta Kraft.
M. Krafte has been and still is the organizer of the Karosta Festival, but says:
“I knew from the very beginning that I would like to participate as an artist myself.”
The opening train will start from the Karosta prison, which will then go to the children’s day center “Cerība szērtī”, where a large-format painting by the Italian artist Daniela Nasoni will be opened.
Next, the train will go to the Garden of Awakening, where the painting by Karosta artist Element-ton will be unveiled, and then to Redana, where the Liepāja Puppet Theater’s performance “Achilles’ Heel” will begin at 6 p.m.
This year, Redan’s “art gallery” will be complemented by the works of Andras Kreitzburg, Lāsmas Gailīte and Agrita Cimmermanes, as well as “Insects and birds” created by young people from Liepāja and Southern Kurzeme.
The large-format work will be exhibited in Redan by “Liepājas RAS”, which is a cooperation partner of the festival this year.
In the continuation of the program, various performances and interactive workshops will take place in Redan, it will be possible to participate in environmental education games.
Mika Dukur’s concert will start in Redana at 8 p.m. At the end of the evening, there will be a party and a fire show, offered by Dj Roadchanger and Andris Kreitzburgs.
At the end of the festival, on June 9, the concert “Miers” will be held in Karosta, which will be dedicated to the decade since the people of Ukraine fought against Russian aggression.
The acoustic concert will take place in Karosta Arsenal. The huge, dark building has unique acoustics. A strong sound there sounds like a terrible noise, while a softer melody intensifies and fills not only the room with wonderful sounds, but also the surrounding forests and dune meadows of Karosta.
The concert venue will evoke associations for visitors with a shelter, a secret refuge during the war. The concert will take place in the dark. The artists will be illuminated with candles and flashlights.
It was Karosta Arsenal with its extraordinary acoustics that inspired the conductor Rasa Gelgotieni and the musicians to create a concert program dedicated to Ukraine.
