Less than four years have passed since the administrative-territorial reform was carried out. Now politicians are deciding what should be changed in it. At the crossroads is discussed by the subcommittee for evaluating the results of the Administrative Territorial Reform of the State Administration and Local Government Commission of the Saeima Girts Valdis Kristovskis (“New Unity”), Speaker of the Saeima Daiga Mieriņa (ZZS) and Member of the Subcommittee for the Evaluation of the Results of the Administrative Territorial Reform of the State Administration and Local Government Commission of the Saeima Edgars Tavars (the “Combined List”). We communicate with representatives of municipalities: with the former head of the municipality of Rojas, now – deputies of Talsi Eva Karklini and Jēkabpils county council chairman Raivi Ragaini.
What is happening with the regional reform? How to evaluate the news about the activities initiated by several municipalities to disconnect from the newly created counties? Only three years have passed since we elected municipalities in new borders, combining a number of parishes and counties. The work has started in the first convocation, but as we can see, dissatisfaction is running high in several places in Latvia. Just a few examples: Carnikava conducts a survey to clarify whether it would like to become an independent municipality again, leaving Đadaži county, which in turn shows interest in Garkalni; Roja yearns for freedom and for the troubled Thals; at one time, we remember, Roja himself was abandoned by Mersrag; signatures are collected in Ikškile, Kandava, they will be collected in Babite. What is it – efforts to turn on the reverse gear, the human factor, the failure of the reform?
