Most of the fastest drivers of last year’s “Rally Islas Canarias” have confirmed their participation. Last year, the winner was Ioan Bonato, the second place was taken by the then future ERC champion Hayden Padon, and the third place was Efren Larena. All three will start. Also in the lineup will be Ivan Ares, Simon Wagner, Mateu Franseki and Jose Antonio Suarez, who also made it into the top ten. The Seska/Franch crew finished ninth that time. Miklos Chomos, Eric Cais, Andrea Mabellini, Jon Armstrong, Mads Ostberg will also be among the participants.
For the first time this year, Aleksej Lukyaniuk, who currently lives in Cyprus, will be seen in the competition. Lukyanuk’s crew will start with “Hyundai i20 N Rally2”. In the Canary Islands, the pilot won in 2017, 2018 and also in 2021, which was the athlete’s last full season so far.
For the crew of Mārtiņas Seskas, this will be the second competition with the new “Toyota GR Yaris Rally2” car. The Latvian pilot has previously competed in the Canary Islands stage twice – last year and in 2018 with the front-wheel drive “Opel Adam R2”, when he took third place in the ERC3 competition.
“Rally Islas Canarias” will start on Thursday, May 2, when the shakedown session will take place, followed by the first super special stage in the evening. Six speed stages will take place on Friday, six more on Saturday. A total of 96 crews applied.

The ERC season opened two weeks ago in Hungary, where the Ceska/França crew fought for victory, but broke a wheel in the penultimate stage and retired. Meanwhile, Hungarian stage winner Simone Tempestini will not start in the Canary Islands.
