The amount of natural gas consumed in Latvia in the first three months of this year increased by 24.6% compared to the corresponding period last year, according to the data published by the Central Statistics Office.

In the first three months of 2024, 4,171 terawatt hours (TWh) of natural gas were consumed in Latvia, while 3,348 TWh of natural gas were consumed in the corresponding period last year. Among them, 907,585 megawatt-hours (MWh) of natural gas were consumed in March this year in Latvia, which is 11.9% less than in the corresponding month of last year.

This year, in January, 1,932 TWh of natural gas was consumed in Latvia, which is 72.6% more than last year’s corresponding month, and in February – 1.331 TWh of natural gas, which is 11% more than last year’s corresponding month.

The amount of natural gas consumed in Latvia decreased by 5.4% last year and amounted to a total of 8,406 TWh. Last year, the most natural gas was consumed in December – 1.25 TWh, which is a decrease of 21.8% compared to the corresponding month of 2022.

Followed by February, when 1,199 TWh of natural gas was consumed in Latvia, which is 9.3% more than in the corresponding period of 2022, January, when compared to the corresponding month of 2022, natural gas consumption in Latvia decreased by 27.1%, making 1,119 TWh, March, when natural gas consumption was 1.03 TWh, which is 1.5% more, and November, when 1.014 TWh was consumed in Latvia, which is a decrease of 9.7%.
