A recent Omniva survey shows that receiving parcels in the Baltic States is becoming more and more common. During the last year, 84% of the population of Latvia, 82% of Estonia and 87% of Lithuania have received parcels. On the other hand, 40% of respondents in Estonia, 31% in Latvia and 38% in Lithuania have sent parcels.

Gusts Muzikants, Omniva Group board member and commercial director, states that the results of the study are in line with the trends that show that people in the Baltic countries increasingly choose parcels instead of couriers: “By courier, only 40% of the parcels are delivered to the recipient the first time. This shows that the time or place of delivery offered by the courier was not suitable in 60% of cases. On the other hand, receiving the shipment in a parcel gives the customer more freedom to decide when to receive it. After all, we have all experienced that the courier calls at an inopportune moment and that meeting the courier on the given day tends to become almost an additional duty.”

Also, the survey data show that the residents of the Baltic states consider receiving parcels using parcels as a more convenient way of delivery than delivery by courier. Namely, 65% of respondents in Estonia confirmed that Omniva parcels are close to their place of residence and daily routes, and 62% of respondents indicated that they can receive parcels at a convenient time. At the same time, only 18% of respondents in Estonia stated that the courier delivery was at a convenient time for them. A similar trend can be observed in Estonia and Lithuania.

G. Muzikants believes that the introversion of Estonians, Latvians and Lithuanians could also play an important role in such a choice, because in other parts of Europe deliveries via courier are more popular: “It seems that people here often prefer the opportunity to communicate less, and since all the Baltic in countries with dense coverage of parcels, they are preferred. We are also pleased that the Omniva name has become a generally accepted designation for parcel shipments in Latvia, and people often say: “I will send with Omniva”, meaning sending by parcel.”

The survey was commissioned by Omniva in the first quarter of this year in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania by the media company Havas. In each of these countries, 1,000 people between the ages of 18 and 74 were surveyed.
