The competition took place in three parts – the qualifying distance, followed by the semi-final and then the race of the best participants in the final. The competition was really fierce, but the 1st place winners in each group were determined: S1 – Ilze Jumiķe, S2 – Luize Plone, S3 – Melanija Rožukalne, S4 – Dārta Rožukalne, S5 – Alina Šeller, V1 – Mārtiņš Dzenītis, V2 – Kristofers Kančs, V3 – Arturs Jānis Krastiņš, V4 – Kristaps Krūmiņš and V5 – Olivers Daģis.

On the other hand, the title of the best school was won by the Riga Center Humanitarian High School for the second year in a row, while the title of the most diverse school was won by the “Patnis” Private High School.

Every year, it is a pleasure to see more and more sports enthusiasts and it is a real satisfaction that the interest in orienteering among students is only growing. This sport develops not only physical endurance, but also mental development, because speed and dexterity in distances are as important as accuracy and the ability to read the map perfectly.

Coach of the Ikšķile Orienteering Club and representative of the Ikšķile High School Daiga Beiner says: “This is the first competition for several children of their club, who only started training in September, but for older students, this is a great opportunity to get to know different parts of Latvia.”

The feedback from the participants is really positive, rarely or almost no one complained about the weather, both experienced participants and beginners say that the run is in even worse conditions. Everyone was really happy and it’s nice to hear that many are focusing directly on their personal result and happy about personal achievements, not just claiming places.

The main judge of the competition Matīss Ratnieks says: “You can run fast, but you also have to know how to read a map and find checkpoints. If checkpoints are not easy to find, then it doesn’t matter how fast you run, running won’t help. This means that dexterity must be combined with mental abilities.”

The Latvian School Orienteering Cup competition for school teams is organized by the Latvian Orienteering Federation in cooperation with supporters Ogre Technical College, Riga Mezi, Maxima, Dobeles Mills, OS Veikalu, Jāņas sēta, Mintprint, Latvian Green Point, Recruitment and Selection Center, State Fire and Rescue Service, State the police, the Border Guard, the Youth Guard Center, the National Guard and the State Forests of Latvia.
